Harriers Training - w/c 10 April

Tuesday 11 April

Please read these details carefully as it will save time on the night. Use the links below for information on time bands and training levels.

This week's session is Paarlauf on the Leisure Centre field, at 6:15pm and 7:00pm. Both sessions will be coached by Sue and Paul.

Coach Sue says: 'Meet on the track fully warmed up (at least 10 mins) for the start of the sessions at either 6:15 or 7:00.

Paarlauf is a Scandinavian term for two-person relay, and this is one of the clubs most popular sessions. The aim of the session is to build your speed endurance - that means trying to raise your threshold so you can run faster for longer.

Runners pair up with some one of the same speed. Runner A does 200m round the track at threshold pace, that means run at a pace where you can just gasp out a few words, meanwhile Runner B jogs across the track to take over from A.

The session is 15 mins, followed by 3 mins active recovery then another 15 mins parlauf'.

Juniors

All track sessions are suitable for Harriers Juniors aged 14 and over. A parent must remain present on the field throughout, but there is no requirement to run together. Speak to Steve Dilley and Sue or Paul prior to the session if you intend to bring a junior.

Performance Session

A Performance Session will take place on the Leisure Centre track, starting at 6:30pm. Eddie will deconflict the session with Sue before the evening, and use the outer lanes if necessary. Performance sessions are open to all club members, and are of particular use to those who are targeting a particular race or PB. Speak directly to Eddie if you think they would benefit your training plan.

Thursday 13 April

Thursday's run is the Coastal Path, meet in the lower Leisure Centre carpark at 6:35pm for a 6:45pm start. Al is MC and will get you into in your groups. You may choose a tempo or more social run, a 45 minute out and back run, or a walk.

Sunset on Thursday is at 8:03pm, and last light is 8:38pm. Please consider if you will require hi-viz & head-torch, especially if you are running home after coffee.

After the run is tea/coffee and biscuits in the Leisure Centre bar, do please join us for a drink and a chat.

Cwmyoy Fell Recce

The next race in the Fell Series is Cwmyoy, and the recce is also on Thursday. This will be at walking pace and everyone is welcome, whether you're racing or not.

Meet on the roadside outside the Skirrid Inn, in Llanfihangel Crucorney, at 5:45pm. From there we'll cram in as few cars as possible and leave promptly 5:50, going in convoy to Cwmyoy where there is limited parking. It's then about a km on the road to where we start the recce... but useful to do as the route is on this road at one point.

The plan is to recce the later part of the race from the trig to the finish, where the route is less defined, but if we end up with more time we can go on to checkpoint 1 and back again - this is flatish on an easy path. If you have any questions please ask Paul Dodd.

Respiratory Infections

You are asked to not to attend Harriers training or events if you have symptoms, or are advised to self isolate in accordance with Welsh guidelines.

Enjoy your running.

Dickie.
