Harriers Training - w/c 21 March

Tuesday 22 March

This week's session is Thornwell Loops, with Dick & John at 6:00pm and Kevin & Richard 7:00pm.

Coach Dick says:

'Meet as usual opposite Tesco Express and the chippy. If you’re not jogging down, be there 15 minutes early for a warmup round the Loop. Be friendly with the locals and give dogs a wide berth.

As you know we only do the loop clockwise now, so take care up the hill, running in single file facing descending traffic. If you climb at Zone 2 you will be able to speak enough to say things like “Look out - I’m not sure if this car has seen us. Best jump up on the grass till they’ve gone past!”

We’ll have a Coach at the top by the roundabout looking out for and calming down the traffic. Get yourself on the pavement straightaway and cruise along the flat, carefully crossing the two road entries. You might then speed up to Zone 3 as the roads bends right and starts to descend, watching out for the last road junction.

Depending on how much Zone 3 you’ve done, you might find that one minute’s walk recovery is about right, especially as you’ve been descending for maybe 400 metres. Others may prefer up to 90 seconds - decide amongst your pace group. In the post-run Review, tell the coach how your recovery decision went for you'.

High Viz is mandatory for winter sessions. Head torches will not be needed, as the loop is well lit. Please do think about whether you will need a head torch on the way to and home from the session though.
