Training Update - Sunday 06 June

General

As announced on Friday by the Welsh Government, there are significant changes to the C19 regulations within Wales for outdoor activity from Monday 07 June, which impact how we can operate as a club.

Regulated Activity

Organised sporting activity (such as our Tuesday training, Thursday runs and races) is now referred to as 'regulated activity', and the maximum number for outdoors from 07 June is 4000. As part of this we will still need to record attendees for Track, Trace and Protect purposes.

In addition, up to 30 people can meet up outdoors for unregulated activity e.g. informal running groups.

Risk Assessment

Regulated activity such as club training must be suitably risk assessed. We now have one overarching risk assessment which will likely cover all our training and running events. Please read this risk assessment carefully paying attention to the elements for which you have a responsibility as an individual. If necessary this risk assessment will be updated and distributed, or supplementary risk assessments written.

Tuesday Training

For Tuesday training we are going to continue with the established process for the time being i.e. 2 sessions (at 1830hrs and 1910hrs) and with a system of pre-registration. However each session will now cater for up to 30 runners. There is also no cut off time for pre-registration, allowing members a bit more flexibility (if there are spaces at the last minute please feel free to attend without registering, just drop me a message later so I can add your name to the list). The increased numbers will hopefully give some confidence that you can register even if you're not 100% sure you can attend, and keep registering as a reserve if needed (I don't think there's many occasions that we haven't invited all reserves to come along anyway).

Thursday Runs

We have significantly changed how Thursday evenings will run. From this week there will be one meeting time for all runners, which will be 1845hrs at the lower leisure centre car park. There is no pre-registration required and the meeting area will not be marked up. However someone will take the names of all attendees, so please make sure your name is on the list when you arrive. The name of facilitator for the night will be pre advertised.

All attendees will run on the same route, with the normal options for a 45 minute group and a walking group. We intend to use four routes, with a different route each week. These will likely be Mathern, Boughsprings, Beachley and Three Woods.

The fifth Thursday will be on the Severn Bridge, meeting at the underpass rather than at the leisure centre. You will have a choice of activity on these evenings; a 5 mile tempo or social run on the night race route, a self-timed 5k time trial on one of the parkrun routes to check your progress over the previous four weeks, a 45 minute run, or a group walk.

What Else?

Various people in the club are looking at other events and activities, such as Club Champs races and socials. Obviously relevant information will be passed on as plans start to firm up. I hope now that this is a permanent return to a bit of normality.

As always, any questions please ask.
