Harriers Coach - w/c 01 August

Tuesday 02 August

Tuesday is the next GLCL road race at Riverfront Newport.

Men's Team Captain Steve says: 'Race 4 of the GLCL Road series NP20 1HG.

This is at 7.30 next Tuesday 2nd August. At present our Men’s A team is 3rd, B team 4th and C Team 5th. We need 24 men and 24 Ladies to run to complete our 3 teams. There will be no official training that night so it is a good opportunity to wear a club vest and represent the Harriers. It is a new 5.2 mile course taking in part of the Newport Riverfront Parkrun course. It will be the flattest course we run.

These races are great occasions and if you are new to the club and haven’t run one before you are missing out. There are likely to be 300-400 runners of all standards taking part. Hope to see as many as possible turn out'.

Thursday 04 August

This week's session is Pyramids on the Leisure Centre track, with Dick & Stuart at 6:15pm and Sue & Lindsey at 7:00pm. You should warm up for at least 10 minutes prior to the session start time, either on the way to the track or around the school field when you arrive.

Coach Dick says: 'This Thursday we have Track Pyramids - a speed-endurance session that is very handy for developing pace judgement as you go up and down the pyramid slopes.

The basic framework is:
200/400/800/400/200/400/800/400/200 etc. with a recommended 2 minute active recovery, which for the 200s only will be a walk/jog across the track back to the start point. But the coaches will be happy if some slower groups miss out maybe the second 800 if they’re running out of time towards the end of the 30 minutes. The coaches will be calling out how the time is going, which should help you make up your mind about what suits your group.

As usual runners are encouraged to run in small groups of similar speed, with runners taking turns to lead the speed surges and time recoveries'.

A Performance Session will also take place on the track starting at 6:30pm. These sessions are open to club members, and are of particular use to those who are targeting a particular race or PB. Speak directly to Eddie if you think they would benefit your training plan.

COVID-19

You are asked to not to attend Harriers training or events if you have symptoms, or are advised to self isolate in accordance with Welsh guidelines.
