COVID Update 30 January

This week has seen announcements from both the UK and Welsh governments about the current lockdowns. Here is a summary of those announcements with regards exercise, and an interpretation of the current rules.

Wales

The Welsh Alert Level 4 lockdown will continue for a further 3 weeks, with the next review due on 20 February. The basic regulations remain the same, in that you may run for as long and as many times as you wish, but your exercise must start and finish at your own home.

There is one change. From 30 January, as well as running alone or with members of your own household or support bubble, you may also run on your own with one other person from another household. Both individuals should start and finish exercise at their own home.

Under current national regulations I see no reason why an individual from Wales should not meet up and exercise with an individual from England. Also there's no reason why one person cannot cycle to someone else's home, and the two exercise together from there.

England

England's lockdown has effectively been extended until 08 March, with an announcement of a 'roadmap to opening schools and the economy' being planned from 22 February.

So the ongoing situation for those living in England is you may only exercise once per day, and you must not travel outside your local area. You may exercise alone, with members of you own household or support bubble, or when on your own with one member of another household.

Cross border exercise.

England's and Wales' exercise regulations are now very similar. Therefore my interpretation is as follows:

Wales

You may run into England and back, alone or with members of your household or support bubble, from your home.

You may run into England and back, from your home, with one person from another household running from their home.

You may run by yourself from your home, into England, and meet one other person and run together.

England

You may run into Wales and back, alone or with members of your household or support bubble.

You may run into Wales and back, with one person from another household.

You may run by yourself into Wales, meet one other person who has run from home, and run together.

You may travel within your local area to exercise, but not into Wales. I interpret 'travel' as driving, (and 'exercise' as walking, running cycling). 'Local' is down to your interpretation.

Forest Mile Challenge

Huge thanks to Cherry for organising the next round of virtual races. As she has stated in the instructions, while participating in this series you should follow national regulations as outlined in this post.

Any questions please do ask.
