Feedback Please on Tuesday's Kenyan Hills Session

Coach Mike would like to know what you thought of Tuesday's session on the Severn Bridge slip road.

We don't often do Kenyan Hills where you run up and down a hill at a constant effort for three spells of say ten minutes continuously.

With the two mile approach jog from the Leisure Ctre and back, it can potentially be a tough ask.

Please let us know what you thought.

  1. I thought it was a good session. I like having a long run on a Tuesday and 11 miles was good training. Great xc practice I thought.

  2. It was hard work (which is a good thing). Felt it in my knees yesterday though, running quite hard downhill on tarmac.

Sore legs and joints are expected after this type of session, more so than a "normal" hill session. I would only suggest doing them once or twice a month. Would have liked to have done them off road to lessen the leg impact, but too dark now I'm afraid, hence doing them on the Slip Road.

  3. Good session Mike - especially given the club champs coming this Saturday where we will be running hard both up and down those many hills for 10 miles at the Elan Valley 10 - so perfectly timed training session - thanks!!! Niki

    2. All part of my plan Niki. These sessions are not just thrown together you know, although it may look like it most of the time. This session was done at this time specifically because of the Elan 10.

    3. As I suspected Mike - and the carbo-loading at the cafe yesterday was also part of the pre-club champs plan I'm sure. The gentle, short trot last night was a nice leg stretch before Sat.

    4. Gold medal, well done Niki. I knew my training plan for the week before the √Član Valley 10, was spot on. Down hill training on Tuesday, carbo loading with cakes on the Thursday, and look at the medals the Club won, I will definitely take my share of credit for the successes, ha, ha. Seriously, well done to not only the medal winners, but ALL the Club runners who did the race.,

  4. Great sessions this month Mike - I agree with the competitive comments about the Paarlauf session & thought that the Kenyan Hills were great & both sessions really pushed me. Thanks! Jonathan
