Thanks From Coach Mike

The outgoing coach for November Mike Evans, would like to thank all runners who attended any of the sessions organised by him for their efforts.
This was his first Coach of the Month stint, and what made it so enjoyable for him was that everyone did what he asked to the best of their ability

The Week Ahead 26 Nov 2012

On Tuesday our second excursion to School Hill this month takes us one step further. Starting at the bottom we have to push on as the gradient flattens right to the Portwall. Coach Mike says it will improve our race performance on hilly routes.

The Itton 8 on Thursday for some and the 5 mile run to Shirenewton and back for those who fancy a shorter run

Regroup points for the Itton run will be the top of Ticken Hill, the turn-off right at Shirenewton, and the turn on to the Itton road by the Itton Village Hall.

Regroup points for the Shirenewton run will also be the top of Ticken Hill and the turn back at Shirenewton.

Buddy up with people of your pace group so you're ready to roll when the MC says GO!

Then put all this training into practice on Saturday at the Gwent League at Blaise Castle on the Chepstow side of Bristol. One of the shortest Gwent League journeys, Blaise is very runner friendly with a fine adventure playground and cafe on the edge of the course.

AGM Highlights

47 members attended Thursday's AGM.
Chairman Gerry Ashton's report dwelt mainly upon the achievements of our runners, the success of our races and our influence on running in all its forms in the region.
Treasurer Bram Fischer reported a good financial year, while Auditor Leo Cohen asked members to pay any fees or other club income by bank transfer to save Bram's time.
The new Committee as published in the Agenda was duly elected, while retiring members were thanked for their service.
The new Club Championships team of Andy Creber and Paul Dodd explained that the 2013 Champs would divide the age-related category into separate male and female tables.
The January Champs race will be the Riverbank Rollick on 20 Jan over in Thornbury.
The meeting finished with a constructive discussion of how to improve the safety and quality of our Thursday runs. This will be summarised, publicised and implemented in the very near future.

Severn Bridge 5k TT On!

It's all calmed down now folks.

Can't guarantee a wind-free run, but no worse than last time.

The Week Ahead 19 Nov 2012

On the Severn Bridge Tuesday for the monthly 5k Time Trial. A great opportunity to gauge your training progress.

And then an early start on Thursday. Ready to run at 6.30 for the Mathern 7, or the shortened Mathern 5 if you don't want to run that far.

The early start is to give us the chance to get back and changed for our AGM in the Bar. Kicks off at 8 but get there earlier to tuck into the buffet.

There'll be a useful discussion on any club matter you'd like to sound off on, tho' the starting topic will be the Thursday runs. Come along and say your piece.

The Week Ahead 12 Nov 2012

Coach Mike Evans has come up with a brand new double session for Tuesday based under and on the Severn Bridge. Which one you do first depends on the time you arrive at the tunnel. The tunnel session is based on short sprints for intervals from 10 to 50 metres, while the on-bridge session involves longer efforts. All will be carefully explained by Mike.

Thursday's run is down to Beachley via Sedbury which can be made nice and longer by taking the interesting Wyebank route.

Please note that we're going to suggest regroup points for all our runs now. They're places on the route where runners can rejoin the group they've been running with. On this run the first is at the top of the steps after crossing the river, and the second is the turn-round at the Old Ferry Inn.

And finally on Sunday morning a trip to the picturesque Parc Bryn Bach for the next Leisure Centre League Cross-Country. Hot showers and a nice cafe are the rewards. Watch this space for meeting time.

The Week Ahead 5 Nov 2012

Coach of the Month Mike Evans has us back on School Hill on Tuesday for the first time this season. Recommended are 12 ups for ABC and 8 for DEF. Hurry back to the LC for a double social whirl - the judging of the men's cake baking comp, and a display of Club kit for purchase. Treat yourself to that new bit of kit you've been promising yourself.

AMENDMENT! Forgot to mention that Jane & Geoff are also putting on a Running Form session down by the S Bridge on Tuesday.

Thursday's run is the picaresque Tour of the Town - what larks! Then more larks in the Bellhanger for November's Curry Night.

Finally on Saturday afternoon a trip to historic Brecon for the second Gwent League Cross-Country. Not at the usual Pen Lan Leisure Centre venue, but down by the canal in the south of the town. Take the second exit signed Brecon at the roundabout you first come to from the A40, and after about a mile turn left at the sign just before the Morrisons petrol station. It's known as Parc de Pugh apparently.

Watch this space for car sharing arrangements later in the week.
