Fell Race Series 2013

A message from our new Fell Race Championship Boss, Niki:
I have great pleasure in announcing the 7 races in the Chepstow Harriers Fell Series next year:

1. Kymin - Sat 12 Jan 2013. 3.9 miles, 1150 ft ascent

2. Blaenbran Blast, Sat 23 Feb 2013. 3.6 miles, 935 ft ascent

3. Cribyn, April (usually!). 5.5 miles, 3100 ft ascent

4. Steam Bunny Stomp, May (date TBC). 7 miles

5. Beacon Batch, June (evening race). 5 miles, 1000 ft ascent

6. Guto Nyth Bran, July (evening race). 6 miles, 1300ft ascent

7. Llanthony Show, August. 3.5 miles, 1100 ft ascent

Best 3 of 7 to count - so you only need complete (not just start!) 3 races. Your score will be a percentage based on the first Chepstow Harrier runner. Most fell races have a scoring system based on the average of the first 5 runners - as you can see this will be a radical departure! The slower the first Chepstow Harrier runner, the better your score will be! However, we want to encourage as many runners both fast and slow - so we'd still very much like to see the likes of Paul Murrin and Pete Ward turning up.

There will be lots of prizes, and anyone just completing 3 races will get something for their efforts.

We will endeavour to have a recce of the races which are not marshalled (such as Cribyn) a week or so before each race so that everyone can familiarise themselves with the route, and gain some confidence, and hopefully competence!

I will give more information about each race - including the date(!) nearer the time.

I have tried to make this list as inclusive as possible and encourage as many newcomers, especially women to participate. Therefore, the observant amongst you will notice that there is an absence of long, very tough races such as the Brecon Beacons or Black Mountains. Those seeking to challenge themselves in a wider range of fell races including very challenging ones, have the South Wales Winter and Summer Hill Series and also Welsh (and even British) championships to target and enjoy.

Look forward to seeing you all on the hills next year!
