Paul Allen, the organiser of the bike rides that some of our members have started to join in, has sent us details of this Sunday’s ride:
The plan is to go over the Tumble from the Abergavenny side.
Meeting at St Lawrence Rd (the pull in near the main round a bout) at 8.30 am. It's about a 60 mile round trip, wouldn't anticipate that we will be back much before 1.00pm especially if we allow time for a cafe stop.
The climb of the Tumble features in Simon Warren's book "100 Greatest Cycling Climbs - A Road Cyclists Guide to Britain's Hills". He scores it 7/10 and describes it as "One of the most feared and frequently raced climbs in Wales. The Tumble offers an excellent challenge to any rider". He gives some stats for each climb, the Tumble has a height gain of 399m and is 5100m in length.
