The Week Ahead 30 May 2011

A nice choice on Tuesday – either a Windmill Hill session over in Tutshill, or the 3k Time Trial at the Beachley track.

On Thursday the final Club Handicap in Chep Park Wood – first off at 7.15. Any one of 16 people can still win overall, so if you’ve done at least two already, better come along. Or Vanessa is still looking for a couple of helpers, so that’s a fun option. Please contact her if you can help.

Have you some time on Friday eve to attend the East Wales Region AGM? I’ll be going and can give a lift to four more. It would be good to have a few Harriers there to support the region and represent endurance runners.

A special event on Saturday. Andy and Gill Stott are organising another Treasure Hunt from Brockweir. Orienteering made simple for runners. This time with electronic punching (no stupid clues).  You can choose either 60 or 90 minutes to score as many points as possible. All on footpaths, tracks and lanes.  Registration from 11.15 am at Mackenzie Hall, Mill Hill, Brockweir.  £3 entry includes printed map and hire of 'dibber'. Suitable also for accompanied kids and mountain bikes! Everyone welcome (car share if possible -limited parking).

The Week Ahead 23 May 2011

An adventurous week away from base, with Tuesday taking us south of Bristol to the grounds of Tyntesfield mansion. With stunning views over the Yeo valley, the race promises to be rather special. We understand there’s a fair chance of entering on the day.

Meet at LC at 5.45 to share cars.

And on Thursday, Vanessa has organised the first hash of 2011.              Leave LC at 7pm to go to the start, or meet directly at 7.15pm in the layby on the right hand side of the B4228 (Tutshill to Coleford Road) about 1mile after Madgetts Farm and before the Hewelsfield crossroads, grid reference SO564008.  Anyone coming from the Tutshill/Brockweir/Gloucestershire area would save time going straight to the start.

And on Sunday there’s a charity fun run in aid of Action Medical Research. Register at Chepstow Rugby Club from 9am, start on the Bridge at 10. 4+miles for the full run across one side of the bridge and back on the other. A shorter race for younger children, mums and dads. Choccie bar and certificate for all finishers. Bring your family and friends.

Yes there will be experienced runners racing it, but if you know anyone who jogs for fitness but is nervous about doing a race, please encourage them to have a go. The marshalls will be friendly and encouraging, and they can take as long as they like.

The Week Ahead 2 May 2011

Spring has sprung and it’s Leisure Centre League time. Chepstow are hosting the first race, and after in the bar we’ll be enjoying the presentation of the prizes from the cross-country season. Come and run or cheer, and then bring along some cakes for the party after.

For the first few weeks after the clocks change we tend to use the 3 woods route a lot till the evenings get longer and we can venture further afield. And to introduce more of a training effect, Coach of the Month Sue Ashton will be leading some fartlek surges at points round the woods.

And finally, many members will have fond, or not as the case maybe, memories of the Mynydd Troed fell race in the beautiful Black Mountains. It’s on again this Sunday at 1pm at Pengenffordd on the A40 to Talgarth road. 7 miles/2,700 foot climb and described as ‘flat and fast’ by one of the inmates of the Talgarth Mental Inst. At £3 enter on the day you’d be a loony not to have a run round this scenic course with views of Llangors and the Brecon Beacons.
