The Week Ahead 28 Feb 2011

Ivan’s innovatory Hayesgate fartlek run is Jane’s first session on Tuesday as March’s Coach of the Month, but will be run in the opposite direction. A jog and drills to the 400 metre mark of the Link Rd leads to the start by the tunnel leading to Mathern.

Thursday’s run is down to Beachley with the Wyebank Loop included to make it a good longer run.

Bring along your Membership renewal cheque on any Club night and make sure you get your £5 discount.

Finally, on Sunday is the last LCL cross-country at Rogerstone School just north of the High Cross Junction 27 of M4. We had some good debut runs at Parc Bryn Bach recently, and a good turnout this time will be a great help in our attempt at securing the titles.

Pontypool 10k This Sunday

Christine Vorres of our fellow LCL club Griffithstown Harriers has asked us to remind everyone that this popular charity race is being run this Sunday 27 Feb. Chris says: Please remind your members that my run is taking place this Sunday at Pontypool Park - 10am start.  All proceeds to St. David's Foundation Hospice Care.

T-Shirts to first 150 finishers, courtesy of Pete Rodger of PSR Control
Systems, and goody bags from Serious Fitness Nutrition (SFN)

Also - is anyone available to help on the day please?

The Week Ahead 21 Feb 2011

A nice choice on Tuesday: four times the length of the Link Road with a generous three minutes recovery between OR three loops and three straights of the Beachley Loop,  with a lift back thrown in (or take your own car if you’d rather  not run both ways).

And on Thursday it’s the Tour of our beautiful Town (while we’ve still got them I hope Tom & Astrid will be offering an off-road ramble).

Magor Marsh - Online Entries

Magor Marsh (one of the flattest & fastest PB courses around) online entries are now open (runners world).  Links to the website and for a postal entry form can be found on the Magor Marsh web page

Information on other Chepstow Harriers can be found on our website, but for a brief outline of the years races check out the following older blog posting :

Mud in the Parc!

Thanks Parc Bryn Bach for another well-organised LCL cross-country. Cheerful marshalls and a well-marked course made it a pleasure to run today, and there were a couple of dry patches if you looked hard!

Danny Lewis (Fairwater) made one of his rare appearances to win the race ahead of Tom Gibbs (Chepstow) and Daryll Barnaby (Fairwater). First three teams were Chepstow, Griffithstown and Fairwater.

First woman was Angela Jones (Islwyn) followed by Lou Summers (Chepstow) and Caroline Morton (Parc Bryn Bach). First three teams were Chepstow, Parc Bryn Bach and Griffithstown.

Well done all who ran and commiserations to those who had to drop out.

Thanks to Clive Cooksey and all at CBB for putting on such a marvellous event.

The Week Ahead 14 Feb 2011

On Tuesday it’s the monthly 5k on the Severn Bridge. Come and have a quick sharp thrash, and get yourself a good time.

A nice choice on Thursday. We’ve got the faithful old Sedbury 7, BUT... a seductive alternative is an away run for the off-roaders on some of the nice trails in Chepstow Park Wood. Meet at the Leis Ctre to share cars at 6.55, or head straight to the car park we use for the Club Handicap ready for a 7pm start.

Tom Gibbs will be guiding everyone on this exciting night-time jaunt. Remember your torch, and those who’ve run off-road with Tom and Astrid before will know that everyone stays together at a pace that suits the slowest.

After whichever run you do, pop back into the Bar afterwards to take your pick of the free kit giveaway that Tom postponed from last week.

I can’t keep Tom Gibbs out of this Blog! Remember he’s organising the classic Quantocks 7 mile fell race starting at Holford Geeen in Somerset at 11am this Saturday. I try to run this every year. The Quantocks are picturesque rolling hills with sea views and no tricky ups or downs. At £3 enter on the day, you can’t beat it. Contact Dick (a Comment after this Blog will do nicely) if you want to share cars.

And finally – phew! – a most important race on Sunday. February’s Club Champs is the LC cross-country at Parc Bryn Bach, the beautiful country park near Tredegar just off the Heads of the Valleys road. There’s a nice visitor centre where you can enjoy a hot meal afterwards, and good changing/shower facilities. Race starts at 11am and we’re meeting to share cars at 9.15. If it’s your first LCL race of any kind, see Syd on Tuesday or Thursday for a race number. And you need to wear some sort of Club top in the race – vest, short or long Club Tshirt, whatever you’ve got.

Gwent League Cross Country Today

Thanks to everyone who came to run or help at the cross country today.

It was a beautiful day for it and we managed two full teams.

It was great to have the tent arrive and get kitted out with chairs like a little camp site – thanks very much Andy you did a wonderful job.

Many thanks to Linda and James for doing all the registration and finish numbers very good of you – hope it went ok?

Thanks to Vanessa and Matthew for travelling such a long way for two little ones ( Ruben and Seth I mean ) and for running so well too!

Thanks to Judith, Berta and Rob for being great company on the way there and Rob for entertaining Ceri so well – you’re a natural Dad!

Thanks to Neil and Andy Stott for coming along for the men’s race and running so well – there was a close battle between Andy, Neil and Rob – ending in that order – it was good to spectate.

And thanks too to Gerry and Sue – I didn’t think you were going to make it – lovely to see you both – thanks for running Gerry.

Stuart and Marianne both had another dazzling run.  Stuart came in 38th and Marianne 4th  well done and congratulations to our superstars.

For all those out there, attached below is a flyer advertising all of the club's open races for 2011.  Whatever takes your fancy there should be something there for you.

Chepstow Harriers 2011 Races

Please pass around/show this to your friends/colleagues and maybe challenge them to take part in one of the events....spread the word....

The Week Ahead 7 Feb 2011

Busy week coming up dear Reader – hope you’re up to it.

On Tuesday you’ll be torn between tackling the advertised Steep Street session (6 long/6 short) and the seductive thought of running the whole length of Beech Grove with an easy jog recovery along High Beech back to the start. The plan is 9 reps split into three sets of three.

On Thursday the good ol’ reliable Itton 8 is scheduled, but again we’ve promised to put on a speed session alternative for those who fancy it. The choice is yours, and you can express your preference for your favourite session by adding a Comment at the bottom of this Blog.

Whatever you do, don’t forget it’s Curry Night! And you may also have heard that our Tom Gibbs is bringing along a lot of running and cycling gear that he’s clearing out before his move oop North. Help yourself before or after your run. All free but Charity donations recommended.

And finally... Gwent League cross-country at Brecon on Saturday. Women start at 12.50 and men at 2.20. Meet at LC at 10.50. Runners and helpers needed. See Lou’s posting on the Bulletin Board.
